![]() The Font Revolution It is no coincidence that our latest font bundle is called the. Network backup software for mac windows 10. Buy windows 7 for mac 2011 download. When we entered the font industry we noticed there was no standard for how fonts were distributed or presented, and this caused a great deal of distress among designers and crafters, and so we set out to revolutionise this, set those standards and make everything much easier and simpler for the end user. Jun 15, 2011 - TrueType -.TTF file extension. Therefore, a Mac TrueType font will need to be converted to the Windows version in order for it to work in Windows. OpenType -.OTF file extension. OpenType font files are also cross-platform and are based on the TrueType format. ![]() In our main bundles we have included OTF and TTF versions of the fonts as these are the common font formats used by designers, typographers and crafters. Font Bundles is passionate about innovating and revolutionising the font industry for all, so we've decided to bring some simplicity and clarity to this space - and directly solve some issues we've noticed our customers have found with the way things are currently done. Let's start by addressing the basics of font formats. OTFs OTF is a modern font format, with advanced features - special glyphs in OTFs were designed to be 'stacked up' to make them very easy to use, provided you were using the right software which supported these features. 'The right software' in this case is limited to software that is specifically built to support the OTF Glyphs. Adobe software is amazing and industry standard by all accounts, but runs at a heavy price tag of over $50 a month, which makes it inaccessible to many, aside from professional graphics designers who use the software daily in their working environment. As I understand it, producers of other free and licensed software (such as Silhouette Studio, Inkscape, Microsoft Word) are loathed to include compatibility for OTFs to function the way they are supposed to, simply due to the complexity, cost and time of the software development involved and the limited number of users who need this functionality. There is another way however, which leads us to Fontbundles first innovation in the field of font accessibility -. PUA Encoded fonts effectively take all of the fancy 'stacked up' glyphs which aren't available to users of most software, and places them into the 'Private Use Area' which is fully available to use by anyone, using the Character Map or Font Book (free software that comes installed with your Windows PC or Mac). It would make a lot of sense for Font Designers and Marketplaces to do this by default, however lots of font designers are designing for the professional graphics design market (who can afford the $50 a month Adobe Software) and not for everybody, and a lot of Marketplaces know that the cost involved in the time consuming process of making fonts accessible would eat into their profits, so they don't bother to do this, and the customer suffers. We are striving to convert every single font we sell into a PUA Encoded version so that they are simple and easy to use for everyone, and don't cause any confusion when someone can't access the glyphs they paid money to access. Within this process, we ran into our second roadblock, TTFs. TTFs TTF is an older format of font and is still around because OTFs aren't fully supported by all software yet (90% of all commonly used software does now support OTFs, but there are some exceptions). It doesn't include many of the advanced features that OTFs do, like automatic ligatures. To make our fonts accessible within this rare older software, we have included PUA Encoded versions of the TTFs as well as the OTFs. With the launch of our latest bundle, confusion has arisen on which version of the fonts people should install on their PCs/Macs, with some people using the OTF versions and other people using the TTF versions. This leads us to our second innovation in the field of font accessibility - The compatible OTF and legacy TTF. The New Download Our new download format is designed to make everything as simple as possible - whereas before you'd get both the OTF and TTF files when purchasing a font bundle, you will now receive just the OTF font format (which will work in 90% of software) and the TTF files are still available, just as a separate download for the users who need it for the older software. This has been rolled out as of today, so for the current and all future font bundles, the file downloads will be presented in this manner. If you're thinking of buying a new laptop for yourself, or for someone else, this Christmas, then you've come to the right place, as our list of the best laptops of 2018 can help you. The new year is upon us, and it’s time to look toward what the next 365 days have in store. As we are wont to do, Linux.com looks at what might well be the best Linux distributions to be found from the ever-expanding crop of possibilities. Of course, we cannot just create a list of operating systems and say “these are the best,” not when so often Linux can be very task-oriented. To that end, I’m going to list which distros will rise to the top of their respective heaps.according to task. With that said, let’s get to the list! Best distro for sysadmins: Parrot Linux. Best resume software for mac 2016. Administrators are tasked with so much on a daily basis. Without a solid toolkit, that job becomes incredibly challenging. For that, there are a host of Linux distributions ready to serve. I believe the one distribution that will find a significant rise in popularity for the coming year will be. This particular distribution is based on Debian and offers nearly every penetration testing tool you could possibly want. You will also find tools for cryptography, cloud, anonymity, digital forensics, programming, and even productivity. All of these tools (and there are many) are coupled with an already rock-solid foundation to create a Linux distribution perfect for the security and network administrator Parrot currently stands at #57 on, and I expect to see a significant leap on that list by the end of the year. Read more about Parrot Linux in. Best lightweight distribution: LXLE. Without a doubt, I believe will become the lightweight distribution of choice in 2017. LXLE manages to combine a perfect blend of small footprint with large productivity. In other words, this is a small-sized distribution that won’t stop you from getting your work done. You’ll find all the tools you need in a desktop Linux release that will feel right at home on older hardware (as well as newer machines). LXLE is based on Ubuntu 16.04 (so it will enjoy long-term support) and makes use of the, which brings with it an instant familiarity. LXLE ships with many of the standard tools (such as LibreOffice and GIMP). The only caveat is the need to install a more modern (and up-to-date browser). Currently LXLE stands at #16 on Distrowatch. I look for this to break the top 10 by mid 2017. You can read more about LXLE in Best desktop distribution: Elementary OS. I may be biased, but I’m certain that Loki will do the impossible and usurp Linux Mint from the coveted “best desktop distribution” for 2017. That will be a fairly impressive feat, considering that Linux Mint consistently clobbers the competition on Distrowatch. Currently, Elementary OS stands at #6 (where Linux Mint continues its reign at the number one spot). How is it possible that Elementary OS could de-throne Mint? Loki has not only proved itself to be one of the more beautiful Linux distributions, it is also rock solid and offers an unmatched user-friendliness and consistency across the desktop. Some might find the Elementary OS desktop to be too “Mac-like.” However, that metaphor has proved incredibly effective with end users and, of course, the Elementary take on the design isn’t nearly as limiting as is the OS X desktop.so feel free to tweak it to your liking. I’ve covered Elementary OS Loki previously, so you can read more in. ![]() Best distribution for those with something to prove: Gentoo. This is a category specific to those who want to show their prowess with the Linux operating system. This is for those who know Linux better than most and want a distribution built specificly to their needs. When this flavor of Linux is desired, there is only one release that comes to mind. Gentoo is a source-based Linux distribution that starts out as a live instance and requires you to then build everything you need from source. This not only requires a higher level of Linux understanding but also demands more time and patience. There’s a dark corner of your Applications folder that few users dare go: the Utilities folder. In here, you’ll find many mysterious applications with opaque uses and confusing titles. We’ve already covered a few, like. But those aren’t nearly as useful as Disk Utility, an app that many Mac users would use if they knew you could format hard drives with Disk Utility. Getting Started with Disk Utility The application’s primary use is to format hard drives with Disk Utility. Formatting a drive erases all its contents, preparing it for new data and replacing the file table. If you purchase a new hard drive formatted with a Windows-centric flavor (NTFS or FAT32), you’ll need to format it in a Mac-friendly format before you can get the most use out of it. The main Disk Utility window displays all the storage devices currently connected to your system. This includes USB drives, SSDs, internal hard drives, SD cards, disk images and anything else that can store data. By default, you’ll see the stats about your boot drive. Mine is named “Sierra.” 3. To format a disk, first select the drive from the left-hand pane in Disk Utility’s main window. Notice that there are two “drives” I can select in the pane. There’s the one I’ve selected called “PNY USB 3.0.” That represents the physical disk, which contains all the partitions on the drive. The “drive” below it represents the partition named TRANSFER. A partition is just a separate logical section of a disk that’s managed independently from other partitions. You can think of partitions on a hard drive like cabinets in your kitchen: even though every cabinet is in your kitchen, they all have their own sizes and contents. You can empty one cabinet without emptying your entire kitchen, or add a new door to cabinet without touching the other cabinets. Every storage device has at least one partition. Some, like the HGST drive above, have multiple partitions. When you’re completely erasing a drive, you’ll want to select the physical disk to make sure you erase everything, rather than just erasing a partition. By clicking on the drive, I reveal some information about it. The partition map, which in this case shows only one partition, will look more complex for drives with multiple partitions. The mount point is an obscure bit of data you might need for certain rare operations, but it won’t have any bearing on formatting our drive. Format Hard Drives with Disk Utility 1. To format hard drives with Disk Utility, select the drive you want to format and click the “Erase” button in the menu bar. This will just open the menu, and you haven’t erased anything yet. In the revealed menu, you’ll see some options about how to format hard drives with Disk Utility. First, let’s give the drive a sensible name. Next, we can select a disk format. Easy cut and paste photo editor for mac. Unless you have a reason to change it, the default option is a perfectly acceptable choice. The other format options have their own pluses and minuses: • Encrypted: The encrypted options use full-disk encryption to keep your data safe from third parties. Clicking this will prompt you to enter a password that you’ll use to unlock the data on the disk. If you intend to store secure information on your drive, encryption is mandatory. • Mac OS Extended (Case-sensitive): this format uses a case-sensitive file table, meaning that a file named “Report.doc” and “report.doc” are not considered to the same. This can mess up some applications like Photoshop, which are written without case-sensitivity in mind, so use with caution. • ExFAT: a modern version of the older Windows FAT system. It works on both Windows and Mac systems, though it doesn’t work perfectly. If you need to swap a drive back and forth between Mac and Windows computers, ExFAT is the best choice. • MS-DOS (FAT): the old Windows file format. This is a more reliable but limited version of ExFAT that works on older or embedded systems, like TVs. If you’re having trouble with an ExFAT drive, try formatting it with FAT instead. Note that macOS won’t be able to save files larger than 4GB on the drive. • Windows NT Filesystem: this option won’t appear on vanilla installations. It comes from the third-party app which provides compatibility with Windows NTFS drives. I'm laughing at myself for not knowing the name of the icon/tool bar at the top of an OSX screen but I don't.
